5G services officially launched in China!

On November first, three major mobile operators, including China Mobile, China Telecom and China Unicom, have officially launched 5G commercial services at the opening ceremony of the China International Import Expo.

5G technology is a breakthrough. Beyond speed improvement, 5G is expected to unleash a massive IoT (Internet of Things) ecosystem where networks can serve communication needs for billions of connected devices, with the right trade-offs between speed, latency, and cost.
5G tops out at 10 gigabits per second (g/s). 5G is 10 to x100 faster than what you can get with 4G.

China Unicom did a test of 5G and 4G speed comparison. The test shows that the mobile phone downloading with 5G network only takes 17 seconds for a 1.6G game, the average download speed is about 96Mb/s; while at the same time the mobile phone downloading with 4G only reached 15%, the average download speed is only 15Mb/s.
5G technology also offers an extremely low latency rate, the delay between sending and receiving of information. From 200 milliseconds for 4G, it goes down to 1 millisecond (1ms) with 5G.

Just think about it. A millisecond is 1/1000 of a second.

Imagine now that your car could react 250 times faster than before. Imagine it could react to hundreds of incoming information and can also communicate its reactions back to other vehicles and road signals and repeat this a thousand times all within a second just by using 5G.
According to China Mobile, through 5G, users can stream ultra high definition video feeds. They can experience immersive VR learning. In addition, cloud gaming, AR shopping, panorama travelling will create localized 5G experiences.

China Telecom & China Unicom

Both offers seven 5G data packages. The cheapest plan is 129 RMB(18 USD) for 30GB per month, and the most expensive plan is 599 RMB(85 USD) for 300GB per month.

China Mobile

Offering five options for personal and family plan. The personal data packages range from 128 RMB for 30GB to 598 RMB for 300GB, while prices for family data packages will start from 169 RMB for 30GB.
The 5G commercial services are now available in 50 major cities, including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen. As the expectation for the new communication technology has long been high, the three major mobile operators will cover 5G services to 100 cities within this year.
Yes! All of the three mobile operators anticipate that 5G and 4G will co-exist for the foreseeable future. In order to satisfy data and voice requirements, they will promote a strategy of synergy between the two. Therefore, although 5G is coming, you can still continue to use your 4G mobile phone with no changes.
